What Is AuroraMUD?

The basic premise and theme of Aurora is a sort of modern day town set somewhere on some continent on planet earth. We aren't anal about theme, but we DO expect public building to be quality work that the citizens of the MUD can take pride in showing. Builders are free to create actual places they know and love, or imaginary places from their hearts.

Aurora is a pretty special place, to those of us who call it our net.home. And part of its beauty is that there is always room for another person to move in and set up housekeeping. We welcome you to drop in and look around, get to know us, and decide if Aurora is the MUD for you!

AuroraMUD has the honor of being the ONLY TinyMUD listed by AltaVista under its Best of the MUDs category, with about 20 other MUDs of various platforms on the entire net. We're pretty proud of that!

News & Announcements

New Web Based E-Mail System - Now AuroraMUDders can have their own web-based them@aurora.org.au email account. Prior existing email accounts for the domain are being forwarded to your current email address of record, but any new accounts need to be set up by the player on our E-Mail page, and accessed via the web interface. (Existing players: If you would prefer using the web based system, contact Jenn and she will set it up to do that for you.)

Kudos to DvoId, who has been slaving away for the last few weeks to get the entire AuroraMUD helpfiles into HTML and nice and happy for you to refer to here on the site. Talk about sucking up! Good going DvoId!

There is a new mailing list for fun and games stuff. If you are interested, ask Jenn or any immortal for subscription details.

Attention all Aurorans! Help support the server by getting your bargain priced aurora.org.au website TODAY! For more details, see the information page we have about it!

Nifty Stuff

Well, character bios are now in place, or being added. Check them out and if you have a character on Aurora, feel free to add your bio! DvoId has formatted these more betterer, take a peek.

Wanna see some pictures of our ugly mugs? If you're an Auroran who wants their pic up in the rogues gallery, just let Jenn know and she'll be more than happy to add you!

Building Stuff

Our Building Policy is now on the web. This is a good thing to check out if you are interested in helping us add to our little world.

The all new QUEST/AREA APPLICATION FORM has been added to the site! If you want to build a publicly accessible quest or public area, send this form in BEFORE you start to build it!

Due to circumstances, we are currently without an online beginning builder's guide. Please watch this space for a new, improved, more comprehensive guide, which will be published by mid-April.

To enhance your knowledge, you can also check out The Building Tutorial Page, which has logs of past building classes.

The Legend of the Grammar Bunch has been added to the site. This is worth a read.

ALERT ALERT ALERT!!! The Grammar Nazis and Grammar Allies have HACKED our beloved website! Fortunately we caught them before they could do much, but just get a LOAD of what they did to the Legend!

Telnetting and Clients

The best way to check out a TinyMUD is with a client rather than telnetting.

We recommend MUSHclient. The version of MUSHclient available here is specially configured by Micha to work nicely for AuroraMUD. (If you use MUSHclient, which is shareware, be a nice person and register it, the guy who coded it deserves some consideration for his work, and no, he isn't an Auroran).

If MUSHclient doesn't rock your world, you can find other clients at our AuroraMUD FTP Site.

The address to point your MUD client to is: aurora.org.au 4201

If for some reason you have no client, or can't get one, or want to try before you compile, then try just using standard telnet.

WARNING: STANDARD TELNET TO TINYMUD IS *NOT* PRETTY!
Fainthearted individuals should seriously consider a mud client!

Melinda

Melinda Rose Hathaway is Aurora's Patron Saint. She passed away in September 1996, at the age of 15, and the message on her pages is really worth studying. Please visit her pages, learn about cancer, about Cancer Kids, learn about the human being behind the illness, and then go to the Green and pick a Melinda Rose.
